Day 1 Whittier We’ll depart Anchorage between 8:00-10:00 once everyone has been briefed on our safety and operation policies. Then it’s off to a quick uptown Anchorage driving tour and then southbound down the super scenic Turnagain Arm! We’ll do a short drive through Girdwood and then off to one of the most amazing tunnels in north America called the Alton Anderson Tunnel! This is a tunnel that has been bored through the bottom of a mountain that is 2.5 miles long and takes 6+ minutes to get through end to end and has survived many earthquakes unharmed. Once we get there we’ll set up camp and get ready for your preferred activity(s). This is a great place for a short bicycle ride around town or to paddle the bay or just a walk around the docks. We carry fishing gear and processing tools on board if you wanted to try inshore fishing here or any destination we go.
Day 2 Valdez Get ready for a super wonderful trip here you that wont find anywhere else! After breakfast we’ll ride on the fantastic Alaska Marine Highway System Ferry with our vehicle from Whittier to Valdez! Here we’ll stay at the Bear Paw campground with nice bathrooms and a laundromat. If you’re not in the mood for halibut bacon burritos for dinner you can eat at the Fat Mermaid for some great local food. If we get 4 of us to pitch in $125 each we can even take a private power boat ride out to the ocean for all kinds of sea life viewing including whales, sea otters, sea birds and others all thanks to Fish Central Boat Rental. If you’re a kayaker you won’t want to miss paddling this place. Get ready for an early am departure because we have a long drive to Denali tomorrow!
Day 3 Denali After breakfast we’ll be departing Valdez early stopping right outside town for awesome pictures and sounds of a glacier melt waterfall pouring off the mountain. After that its buckle up for a long ride time. We’ll stop for a potty break in Glenn Allen and get ready again for a ride to Glacier view for some awesome photos and then… off to beautiful Palmer for lunch and up the Mat-Su valley with views off Mount McKinley to our campsite in Talkeetna! We can visit local museums and other attractions before and after a salmon dinner.
Day 4 Seward but first… we’ll drive up AK3 past Trapper Creek to get a few more views and shots of Mount McKinley before making the trek south to Nancy Lake for a quick driving tour… then back on our way down the valley to our lunch location in Anchorage. Then we get to see the Turnagain Arm again on our way to Seward! We’ll follow the Seward highway through Moose Pass and ultimately descend down the mountainside to beautiful Seward! We’ll set up camp at the Seward City Campground on the Resurrection Bay and get onto your activity of choice or simply relax at the bay and watch the boats and clouds roll by. Seward is beautiful from the air, land or water so Kayakers and hikers don’t miss this one! Seward is also home to the Alaska Sea Life Center and is very worthy of your time. Dinner will be halibut or Prince William Sound spot shrimp tacos or salad! I look forward to the campfire conversations this evening.
Day 5 Soldotna Our next destination is only a couple hours away so our departure time from Seward is flexible. If our group want’s more time here we can delay until 10:00am or so. We’ll stop in Cooper Landing for pictures of where Kenai Lake turns into the Kenai River. Then south to Soldotna for lunch before we visit the Soldotna Visitor Center. We’ll walk the staircase behind the visitor center down to a safety platform on the river for some close up river pictures. Once we’re done we’ll go to the City of Kenai Visitor Center for some interesting local history and last potty break before the drive back north to Anchorage to 4902 Spenard Road across from the airport.
Thank you for considering camp/touring Alaska with us!
